Chicken Saji

Travel brings about so many opportunities to sample local culture, but undoubtedly one of the greatest pleasures is tasting the local food. Although a Balochi dish, from Pakistan’s western province of Balochistan, the chicken saji in Lahore is my favourite discovery in this beautiful city!

So when I was contacted by Nick and Dariece at Goats On The Road about a collaborative post opportunity about my favourite travel dishes, I was more than happy to share my favourite fast food in the world!

i regret not trying this whilst I was in Pakistan. I was worried about getting sick because id crossed from India where i’d been in hospital a week with food poisoning and didnt want to take any risks. Now i realise what i ate was probably less safe than a lot of street food!

Hahahahahhaa 20/20 hindsight – we’ve all been there! Never mind, it’s always there waiting for you for when you return 🙂

Ooo… Saji looks delicious, I love street food, but I do worry about the food poisoning. Especially with chicken. Do you worry about that when you travel? Or have you a stomach of steel?

Yes I do worry about that, soooo much actually! I’ve had some terrible experiences with food poisoning 🙁

Living in Lahore, I know where to go and where to avoid, so I’m generally ok. I also ask around for suggestions from other foreigners, and locals who understand what I’m talking about (my friends are really in tune with what I can and can’t eat). Travelling elsewhere, I tend to be careful – vegetarian where possible, and from places that have a high turnover. I usually avoid street food in the subcontinent when I’m not familiar with the city and outlets.
