White Night Melbourne, the all-night festival of culture, music, art, light, dance and other performance, is set to rock the southern city once more!

Tonight’s event is Melbourne’s second White Night, after the city held Australia’s first White Night on 23rd February last year. More than 300,000 people attended last year’s spectacle, which UrbanDuniya covered as one of our inaugural articles! It is definitely one of our favourite events of the year!

The expanded program this year sees more action added to Swanston Street, musical performances on Bourke Street Mall, and more events near the State Library / Melbourne Central precinct. The ‘Wonderland’ precinct with building lighting projections along Flinders Street is back this year, along with some other favourites!

Originally held in St Petersburg, Russia, on the shortest night of the year, it wasn’t until Paris held its first Nuit Blanche in 2001 that the concept began to spread worldwide. The idea behind White Night is that the city comes out to play in a festival of art and culture through the middle of the night, turning the usually lonely early-hours into a midnight wonderland.
