When bijli gaye
And a silence dawned
Before the complaining
For the loss of ever feeling bored

When bijli gaye
And the children cry
Climb on their parents
And the heat begins to rise

When bijli gaye
The temptation was intense
The darkness crashed upon us
But the humidity was too dense

When bijli gaye
And we turned to our phones
9% battery left
And the room erupted in groans

When bijli gaye
And the generator roared to life
Living among the dead
Limp, strewn across charpoys

When bijli gaye
And we escaped that prison
Skipping across the rooftops
Dancing on streets under moonlight risen

When bijli gaye
And I wondered what
if it came back soon
Would we be ready as we thought?

When bijli gaye
And we lost all our sense
Smoke hangs in the room
Another drag on that incense

When bijli gaye
And the dreaming began
Ammi heaves into the room
Because the evening was at an end

When bijli aaiye
And all was undressed
And we’re no longer lost
But of what are we bereft?
