Why no-one had come up with the idea sooner is quite beyond me. Bagel burgers – stacked up with beef, salad and ketchup – seem like the logical progression from filled breakfast bagels!

For those not au fait with bagels, they are a stodgy, ring-shaped, boiled bread originating from Eastern Europe and associated with the Jewish diaspora, particularly in North America. Their plain flavouring and heavy composition make them a perfect item for breakfast, toasted with jam, or filled with cream cheese, smoked salmon or other treats.

Round The Way is a mobile bagel burger kitchen, borne of a New York-style bagel bakehouse in Ballarat. Ryan Slater and Peter Marios bring their love of good food to Melbourne from time to time, and when they do, we highly recommend checking it out!

We ordered the Czech 1-2 burger, a simple stack of beef, tomato, lettuce, mayo and tomato relish, topped with oodles of tasty, melting cheese. Delicious is an understatement; fresh, crisp flavours and just enough oomph to make it comfort food – we’re definitely going to be back for more! Also on the menu is the Reuben burger (featuring corned beef, pickles, sauerkraut and ‘Russian dressing’), or the Saganaki (perhaps a nod to co-founder Peter’s Greek heritage).

Of course, this being Melbourne, coffee is also on the menu, along with a range of premium soft drinks, cupcakes and some of the most amazingly melt-in-your-mouth macarons we’ve ever tasted. Check on their Facebook page for current locations – we’ll certainly be back for more!

Reminds me of the Doner kebab… which imitates the shape of hamburgers.
Europe is a great place of eating all sorts of kebab variations.
I guess burgers are more popular in Australia(?).
