The annual St Jerome’s Laneway Festival is held in Melbourne today, after the year in which it made its North American debut.
Since 2004 the Laneway Festival has featured a lineup of indie music acts, and has grown exponentially to now cover eight cities around the Pacific region. On 14th September 2013 it made its North American debut in Detroit. Sydney’s festival is to be held tomorrow.
The year’s lineup includes Sydney-based band The Jezabels, New Zealand’s Unknown Mortal Orchestra, and recent Grammy Award-winner Lorde.
The inaugural event was held in Caledonian Lane between Swanston Street and the former Myer building in Melbourne’s CBD. This year’s event will occupy a large swathe of Footscray, including Moreland Street and the Maribyrnong River bank.
Melbourne will be abuzz this weekend with the Latin Summer Festival at Birrarung Marr today and tomorrow, the Japanese Festival in Federation Square on Sunday, and the annual St Kilda Festival starting today. Add to this the continuing Chinese New Year celebrations, and it looks like one very busy weekend ahead!
Tickets are already sold out. For more information about the event, or for upcoming Laneway Festivals, go to the St Jerome’s Laneway Festival website.
