Sydney will come alive this weekend with the International Fleet Review celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Royal Australian Navy.

The spectacle is to begin tomorrow when forty warships from twenty countries will sail into the harbour, led by the HMAS Sydney. Stationed around the harbour, the ships will mark a tribute to the navy’s centenary.

On Saturday night the harbour will explode with colour and light, with a fireworks extravaganza expected to be one of the city’s biggest. The 30-minute spectacular will feature lasers, projections and a mock war scenario.

Director of Imagination events Heath Campanaro is the project manager for the Royal Australian Navy’s International Fleet Review Spectacular. He told the Daily Telegraph that the display would recreate a war scene. “We are creating scenes that replicate WWII where we will feel like Sydney is under attack” he said. “We will have choppers flying over and sailors will be doing activities on deck. There will be lots of lighting, lots of action and the whole thing will be amazing.”

The Royal Australian Navy’s International Fleet Review Spectacular will be broadcast live on ABC Television from 7:30pm. For more information on the event, visit the International Fleet Review’s website.
