Corroboree Sydney 2013

Opening tonight in the harbour city is Corroboree Sydney, a new festival based in the which promises to celebrate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture from across the nation.

Exhibitions, performances, live music, talks, films, readings and forums are all part of the line-up, to be held across eight locations. The venues include the Art Gallery of NSW, the Australian museum, the Royal Botanic Gardens, the Sydney Opera House, the Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, the Bangarra Dance Theatre and Pier 2/3 (to be dubbed ‘Corroboree Central’) in The Rocks.

Headlining the inaugural festival are performances by former Australian Idol Casey Donovan, visual artist Craig Walsh’s ‘Embedded’ exhibition at the MCA Galleries and the contemporary Dance Clan 3 by the Bangarra Dance Theatre.

The festival opens this evening with a auspicious Firelight Ceremony, with a ‘Corroboree Flame’ to be carried across Sydney Harbour on a traditional bark canoe.
