Airline tail art: Emblems and icons
Over the past few weeks I’ve been bringing you a sample of the world’s airline’s most interesting and beautiful liveries. Last time we were looking at the airlines that fly their national flags on their tails, and today we’re looking at emblems.
A flag carrier doesn’t always have to carry the flag; in fact a nation’s official airline’s art might just as likely to depict a crest, a government symbol, or a national icon. Here is the next set of airline tail art: emblems and icons.
-
Etihad Airways with its old livery, the emblem of the United Arab Emirates
-
Royal Brunei Airlines with a small emblem of Brunei above the airline's initials
-
Yemenia, Yemen's national airline, carries the flag high above the company logo - can you spot it?
-
The oryx, the national animal of Qatar, on the tail of Qatar Airways
-
Saudia, the Saudi Arabian national airline, carries a stylised House of Said crest on its tail
-
Air Serbia featured a stylised double-headed eagle, inspired by the Serbian coat of arms
-
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines with the royal Dutch crown
-
Greece's Olympic Airways sports, you guessed it, the Olympic rings!
