Maybe she’s a whore
Upper class nudity
Maybe she’s vulgar
But I crave your reality

Walking Mall Road in an overcoat
And eastern nights naked and raw
But it’s when she’s muddy and ugly
that I love her evermore

I wake up with a mouth full of dirt
And my head full of song
My eyes full of grit
And you, stirring the cauldron all along

How did this happen?
So exhilarating and close to break
But so hot and alive
Vivid, for you, my life I’ll make

Inhabiting the sky
The heaven and the universe
At your feet, man
And this city’s grimy curse

And you’re so exalted
I might never settle this street
They put me on a pedestal
While I kneel at your feet

But I’m afraid of heights
And you don’t want respect
But at least we have each other
Or I think I might have you, yet

At least I have you
In my orbit, not below nor above
To love, if not be loved
To be loved, if not to love
