In what is perhaps the ultimate act of urban regeneration, three of Sydney’s decommissioned public toilet blocks are to be overhauled into cafes.

The three sites, all in prime locations, will offer diners the chance to sit in historic buildings which have been unappreciated for decades. The public toilets are at Taylor Square, Belmore Park, and Hickson Road near Barangaroo.

It is still unclear whether the cafes will incorporate the building’s heritage into their theme, but The Sydney Morning Herald reports that the City of Sydney has been fielding offers from cafe operators. The article also lists the Barangaroo property as being in a plum location, as it is built in to a cliff face across the road from Sydney’s newest suburb.

No details of potential tenants have yet been announced.
