The start of Ramzan has not yet been confirmed in Pakistan and India, due to the relevant authorities not sighting the new crescent moon in those countries.

The News Tribe is carrying a report that fasting for Ramzan is unlikely to begin in Pakistan on Wednesday, due to unclear weather precluding the sighting of the moon. The Ruet e Hilal (moonlighting) Committee of Pakistan is to convene to make a final decision tonight, but reports suggest that fasting will begin on Thursday 11th July. Similarly The Wall Street Journal reports that monsoon clouds over Delhi’s Jama Masjid could delay the sighting of the moon, with a final decision to be announced later this evening.

Tonight’s confirmation or otherwise of moonsighting in Pakistan and India will be reported on UrbanDuniya’s Facebook page and Twitter account at early tomorrow morning local time.

Meanwhile, fasting is to begin in Australia from Wednesday 10th July, after an announcement by Victoria’s Board of Imams on Sunday.

UrbanDuniya wishes all of its readers and their families a very happy Ramadan, with all the peace and reflection that this special month brings.
