Famous peace activist and influential artist Yoko Ono will visit Sydney this weekend at the launch of War Is Over! (if you want it), the Museum of Contemporary Art’s summer exhibition.

Ono’s first solo exhibition in Sydney opens today, and she will appear at The Sydney Opera House for a conversation piece on Sunday afternoon. Sold out far in advance, the conversation will be recorded and will appear on the MCA’s Facebook page after the event.

After growing up in Japan during World War Two, Ono’s message of peace became known worldwide after her marriage to musician John Lennon in 1969.  Her message of peace and humanity is represented through a range of media, including film, visual art, music and interactive pieces.

Symbolic of this is The Wish Tree, which allows visitors to write their wishes and dreams on cards which are then attached to a communal tree. The tree, an Australian-native version of which will appear at the MCA this summer, represents our collective hopes as humans with its growing number of wish cards.

The exhibition, which is also being marketed on social media as the ‘summer of Yoko’, will run at the MCA until 23rd February 2014. For more information about the War is Over! (if you want it) exhibition, or to buy tickets online, go to the MCA’s website.
