Palatial transit: Antwerp Central Station

I recently changed trains in Antwerp Central Station in Belgium, and for the three hours I spent there, I was enthralled by the building’s architecture.

Known as Antwerpen-Centraal in Dutch, it was designed by Bruges-based architect Louis Delacenserie around the start of the twentieth century, and it looks like a palace.

No wonder it was voted the most beautiful railway station in the world by Mashable.

Antwerp is one of my favorite train stations! I was enthralled by it when I visited Belgium in 2010, and I gush about it to anyone who will listen. CST in Bombay is a sentimental favorite as well 🙂
