The date of Eid ul-Fitr 2013 (1434) has been announced as Friday 9th August for Muslims in Pakistan and India, bringing to an end the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

According to a report by The Express Tribune, Pakistan’s Ruet-e-Hilal (moonsighting committee) has sighted the crescent moon marking the beginning of the month of Shawaal. Meanwhile Delhi’s Jama Masjid has also confirmed Friday as the date of Eid ul-Fitr, according to a report by NDTV.

Eid prayers will be held in mosques across the subcontinent on Friday morning, as families and friends feast and businesses enjoy a bumper season. Celebrations have been marred in the Pakistani city of Quetta after an explosion killed 38 attendees at a funeral.

Eid ul-Fitr was held in Australia and many other regions of the world on Thursday 8th August.

UrbanDuniya wishes all its readers and their families and friends a very happy Eid ul-Fitr.
