Eid announced for Thursday in Australia

Crescent moonThe date of Eid ul-Fitr 2013 (1434) has been announced as Thursday 8th August, bringing to an end the holy fasting month of Ramadan.

In a press release earlier today, the Board of Imams of Victoria announced that “the Astronomical New Moon is expected to be on Wednesday 7th August 2013 at 07.51am (AEST) in Australia and thus the first possible visibility of the new moon (hilal) after sunset at 05.38pm will be on Wednesday 07th August 2013 and moon setting at 06.06pm in Melbourne.”

Exact dates for Eid ul-Fitr in Pakistan and India are yet to be confirmed, but it is likely to fall on Friday or Saturday in both countries. Stay tuned to urbanvoice, UrbanDuniya’s Facebook page, or our Twitter account for further updates.
